Astros Playroom Review Playstation 5

Besides this, it is worth mentioning that such a jump can be combined with a Spin and a Beam Glide to create a huge amount of distance, thus opening up even more possibilities for the player. Without spoiling anything, Astro’s Playroom essentially takes place inside the inner workings of a PS5 console. Each of the four main zones are themed after hardware concepts such as the SSD Speedway and the Cooling Springs. Cooling Springs for example is chocked full of various PS3 models, the PS Sharp Shooter gun, the PSP, Vita, and so on. Puzzle Piece 1/4 – Right after getting into the spring suit, jump to the left and land on the button to raise some platforms, then jump up to the left again to find this puzzle piece. Puzzle Piece 2/4 – After reaching the first wire pull while going up the wall, jump up off the left side of the tilting platform to reach this puzzle piece.

Collecting all the Artefacts in Astro’s Playroom will unlock the Dude Raider Trophy. Please note that you will also collect some Artefacts after beating the final boss in the game. Prince of Persia is a 1989 cinematic platform game developed and published by Broderbund for the Apple II.

The interior display is four times the resolution of the original, and 3D audio adjusts with your head position. 789win tracking also allows for foveated rendering, where areas you aren’t looking at will not be given priority in order to optimize game performance. The HD Camera follows in the footsteps of the PlayStation Camera, PS Eye and EyeToy before it.

You can jump down to the wooden platforms, then into a cave where you can pull a wire for this artifact. Artifact 1/3 “PSP UMD” – After riding the lilypad up, instead of jumping left onto the moving platform go to the right into a freezer area. Jump through the ice and hit the button to lower the water, then you can grab this artifact. Puzzle Piece 3/4 – After jumping up through a stack of glass blocks, this puzzle piece is just to the left at the top.

Instead of jumping left to the next Checkpoint, you should jump up the ledges on the rock wall to get to the top. Each level of the game has at least a few checkpoints, so do not worry if Astro is accidentally killed. Especially if he’s grabbed a collector’s item while performing a difficult stunt.

Run Astro Run!

It also teases that a selection of gatchas, or collectibles that can be earned via an in-game arcade machine, have been added, too. On its own, Astro’s Playroom would be a fun platforming distraction fit for younger gamers or families. Its world is vibrant and wonderfully detailed, and it looks exceptional on the PS5. But in all honesty, this isn’t so much a game as it is a showpiece for what the DualSense controller can do. And as a result, this isn’t so much a review, as it is an opportunity to highlight how well the features on the PS5 controller work.

A full-length sequel, Astro Bot, was announced on May 30, 2024, and was released for the PlayStation 5 on September 6, 2024. As someone that has owned and loved every single PlayStation console from the PS1 to the PS Vita and PS4, it was an absolute treat to play Astro’s Playroom. I don’t hide the fact that I’m a genuine PlayStation fan, wearing PS symbol t-shirts often and sporting my Crash Bandicoot controller holder — it’s not really a secret.

Every single PS2 God of War was released in a PS3 collection in 2009, while the PSP duo were in 2011. Astro’s Playroom could easily have been a simple tech demo, and in a way it is that. Its main function is to demonstrate the possibilities of the DualSense. It’s the kind of charming 3D adventure rarely seen outside of Nintendo, one dripping with inventive ideas and heartwarming details.

This fellow was in the Dinosaur Tech demo to show the power of the PlayStation at rendering a single character. The T. Rex makes many other appearances in Astro’s Playroom, including the Dreams reference in Renderforest and some of the screens in the PlayStation Labo area. Yet another unlockable display for the Labo area is a Bot throwing a blue boomerang around. The shape is a reference to the infamous “Boomerang” prototype controller, an unofficial name for the controller that was shown alongside the PlayStation 3 when it debuted. The controller would be dropped in favour of the more familiar DualShock design.

This is a great game to play with the family, not only as a demo of the new controller but as a game that will hold your attention for a considerable time. Also, because of the different skills required, you may find a wider audience of players than usual platform games. In the game, you control your little character as he jumps, dodges and explores his way around the levels. Unlike other platform games, this has a trick up its sleeve in the form of the DualSense controller’s ability to let you feel your way around levels.

If done successfully, the Gran Turismo Special Bot and the “Grand Tourist” trophy will unlock. At the top of the steps, turn around, and come back on yourself so you’re walking across the white beams at the edges. Before you do that, stand on the edge just to the left of where you need to pull the chest from the ground. Doing so reveals the riddle for this area, which is a rather cryptic space outfit. A PS5 is hard to come by, and it’s hard to get new games that make the most of its power. In the hope of tackling both problems, we begin to assemble the list of the best new games available on PlayStation 5.

Demonschool

My favorite track overall, however, was the SSD Speedway, featuring sounds that match the game’s presentation perfectly. The final neat feature of Astro’s Playroom is the Network Speed Run challenge levels. You can do normal platforming challenge levels with Astro or ones focused on each suit to earn the best times. But it’s not all suits and colorful levels to enjoy, there’s also a mountain of collectibles to find that tug on the nostalgic heartstrings of any PlayStation fan.

As such, if they are moving over a very narrow stretch of terrain, it might be best for them to stay ground-bound for the duration. It comes pre-installed on the PS5, which makes sense because it serves as a tech demo for the DualSense controller. The little robot that couldSince this is a free pack-in game there is no deliberation required on whether or not you should buy Astro’s Playroom — you’ve already got access to it for free if you own a PS5. The question is should you play it and the answer is a resounding yes if you’ve ever found yourself nostalgic for PlayStation as a brand or if you enjoy 3D platformers. I mentioned this already in my Astro’s Playroom preview, but it really can’t be overstated how innovative the DualSense PS5 Controller is and just how effective Astro’s Playroom is at showing it off. From the opening moments when it teaches you about the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback it never stops impressing all the way until the very end.
